Additional Information

Message from Fastpitch Nation Owner David Rocha - The softball community lost one of its greatest ambassadors with the sudden passing of Coach Ted Koch from Ellington, CT. To me, Ted was a giant among softball coaches, and not for the championships he won or his win-loss record. He was a giant because every player he ever coached mattered as much to him as any other. If you ask any softball player who their favorite coach in their career was, if anyone played for Ted, the answer was immediately, Ted Koch. My own daughter is among them. I will miss seeing him here at the park. But mostly I will just miss my friend.

TED KOCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND - This scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior on the Ellington, CT High School softball team who plans to play college softball at any level. May Coach Ted Koch continue to inspire the next generation of softball players for years to come. I encourage you to donate.

In the Fall less total teams play.

Umpire Pay-at-the-Plate

  • Each team pays cash to the umpires at the pre-game meeting prior to the start of the game.
  • See the Event Info above for the cost for this event.
  • In tournaments, teams pay for all games EXCEPT the finals. The tournament host pays for the umpires used in the finals.
  • Pay-at-the-plate has become the standard across the region.
  • Pay-at-the-plate is a fairer system, as weaker teams no longer subsidize stronger teams that play more games during bracket play.
  • Teams do not need to collect as much money early in the season from parents due to the much lower event entry fees.
  • When a tournament gets shortened due to weather, teams will no longer lose money for games not played.
  • Umpires do not refund payments for games shortened by weather or other reasons. If shortened or postponed games are restarted, teams do not have to pay umpires again.
