Tournament Information
New England Fusion 2025 College Showcase Rules
Current National Federation of High School (NFHS) Softball Rules will apply to the New England Fusion College Showcases. It is the responsibility of ALL coaches to be familiar with the playing rules.
At least one Umpire-In-Chief (UIC) will be on-site during Tournaments. In the event an on-field issue cannot be reached by the field umpires, the UIC will be called to the field.
Time Limit - All pool play games will be 1:30 minutes finish the inning. NO new inning can begin after 1:25. If the home team is leading the game shall end at that time.
All games are 7 innings when time permits.
The game is in control of the Umpires on the field.
No warming up on the infield prior to games. Warmups must be beyond first or third base/
The manager is required at the plate conference (payment to the umpires is made at this time).
The manager is legally responsible for all the team’s equipment.
The manager is responsible for the team’s spectators’ actions.
Spectators/parents associated with a team are the responsibility of the Manager. It will be the manager’s responsibility to control their team’s spectators which may include ejection.
The clock begins immediately after the pre-game plate conference.
a. A coin toss will determine home and away.
b. Game time in the control of the umpires.
The Run Ahead Rule is in effect for all games. For pool play games Friday and Saturday the run rule is 12 after 5, 8 after 6, 1 after 7. During single elimination games on Sunday the Run Rule is 12 after 3, 10 after 4, 8 after 5.
Only coaches and rostered players are allowed inside dugouts and on the field. Defensive coaches are not allowed on the field of play when the ball is live during games.
Jewelry is allowed. However, jewelry, which is judged by the umpire to be dangerous, must be removed and may not be worn during the game.
Penalty - Illegal equipment shall be removed or made legal. The umpire shall issue a team warning. The next offender and the Manager shall be restricted to the dugout/bench for the remainder of the game.
14. Metal cleats are allowed for teams 13u and older.
15. Lineups-Rosters During pool play teams can bat everyone if they choose. Once the lineup is
Submitted the batting order shall remain the same.
16. Defensive substitutions can be made freely during the game.
17. A courtesy runner can be used for the catcher at any time. It can be a substitute or the last out.
A courtesy runner cannot run for both the catcher and the pitcher in the same inning.
18. Games may start with 8 players. If only 8 players the 9th position in the batting order shall be an
out. In pool play if teams only have 8 players they can borrow from another team. During elimination play on Sunday, ALL players can only play for the team they are rostered with.
19. Ejections -
If a manager, Asst. Coach or Team Personnel, or someone other than a player, gets ejected from the game, they must leave the vicinity (out of sight, out of mind) of that playing field immediately and be prohibited from any further contact (direct, indirect or electronically) with the team during the remainder of that game. Failure to leave or comply will be a team forfeit. Any ejection deemed extreme by the umpires may warrant an additional game ejection. Any threat made to an official will mean ejection from the Tournament and subject to arrest. It is the Tournament Director’s discretion whether further penalties are warranted.
If a player is ejected and a parent or legal guardian is present, the player and parent must leave the vicinity for the remainder of the game. If a parent or legal guardian is not present, the player will be restricted to the bench under the supervision of an adult. An ejected player will be able to play in the next game. 20. Protests - must be filed before the next batter is up. Teams cannot protest a judgement call made
By an umpire. Please don’t argue. This is a College Showcase. College coaches don’t want
Time wasted watching arguments.
21. Rosters -
Teams can roster up to 20 players for this event.
Teams are free to add and remove players as they wish for Pool Play games only. Rostered players on Friday are the only players able to play for a team on Sunday. Sunday is elimination play. Teams can only play for 1 team on Friday.
22. Forfeits -
The score for all forfeits shall be recorded as 12-0. Avoid forfeits at all costs.
